PLUMBING & FIREFIGHTING
Drainage and Rain Water System
Prepare the workshop drawings showing a complete installation along with section details for coordination with other MEP works.
After approval of shop drawings, prepare the builders work drawings and based on that install sleeves in basement service walls and beams.
Drawings stamped “issued for construction” by the consultant should only be used for site works.
Install pipe sections which are embedded below ground floor slab.
Check gradients (slope) of all drainage pipes according to requirements. Coordination with the Main Contractor for installing the drainage pipe under the basement floor slab.
The sewer or drain under test should be left with water for 1-2 hours.
Submit inspection forms for Consultant’s approval before encasing pipes with concrete.
Fix pipe brackets in basement as approved.
Install main pipe headers in basement.
Plug, test and submit inspection forms for Consultant’s approval, along with progress of installation.
Acoustic insulation – to be provided as per manufacturer recommendation.
Authorized staff of subcontractor to be present on site during concreting and back filling operations to ensure that the position of pipes is not disturbed by movement of works.
Scale of shop drawings to be as specified or as approval by Consultants.
Large scale of shop drawings for detail section shall be 1:25 or 1:20.
Invert levels and slopes shall be 1:60 up to 4 inches, 1:90 up to 6 inches and 1:120 from 8 inches and above or as specified of Consultants.
Mock-up for typical shaft to be installed prior to complete installation.
Drainage Pipe Testing
Suitable strutted plugs are inserted at the lower end of the drain or sewer and at the head of any connections.
a suitable bend together with a vertical length of pipe is fitted at the head of the sewer or drain to provide the necessary test head. The system is then filled with water.
A test pressure of 1:50 m head above the crown of the pipe is applied at the higher end of the drain or sewer ensuring that the resultant head at the lower end does not exceed 4.0 m. Where gradients are steep, it may be necessary to test in sections to avoid exceeding this figure.
The sewer or drain under test should be left filled with water for 1-2 hours.
During the water test, strutting precautions should be taken to prevent any movement of the drain or sewer.
Once building and making good of service shafts are completed by main contractor, along with erection of block walls and provision of sleeves in adjacent bathrooms, proceed with installation of drainage and rain water risers, complete with pipe branches and floor gulley connections.
Plug, test and submit inspection forms to obtain consultants approval.
Install rain water outlets prior to roof’s waterproofing and connect to adjacent pipe risers.
Install floor grating covers in various bathrooms and kitchen in conjunction with floor tiling.
Final connections to sanitary fixtures.
Domestic Water System
Prepare the workshop drawings showing a complete installation along with section details for coordination with other section and plans above false ceiling shop drawings to be submitted.
Approved drawings to be marked “issued for construction” by the consultants.
Once the building and making good of service shafts is completed by main contractor, along with erection of block wall and provision of sleeves in adjacent bathrooms, proceed with
installation of domestic water pipe risers complete with pipe branches distribution in adjacent bathrooms.
Test, and submit inspection forms to obtain Consultant’s approval, along with progress of installations.
Final connections to sanitary fixtures.
Care will be taken to connect all sanitary fixtures in tile centers, or as agreed by the Engineer, coordinate with the main contractor.
Obtain drawings for the tile lay-out from the civil contractor to position the sanitary fixtures.
Thrust blocks anchored to be provided as shown on drawings.
All gate valves to be installed at accessible locations.

Hot Water System
Once building and making good service shafts is completed by main contractor, along with erection of block walls and provision of sleeves in adjacent bathrooms, proceed with installation of hot water pipe risers complete with pipe branches distribution in adjacent areas.
Procedure of water supply pipe testing.
Test and submit inspection forms to obtain Consultants approval along with progress of installations.
Insulate hot water pipes.
Install water heaters.
Test and submit inspection forms to obtain Consultants approval, along with progress of installations.
Insulate main headers
Final connections to sanitary fixtures.
Install clarifiers, circulating pump sets and connect to supply and return headers.
Installation of hot water piping system. Specially for riser and all pipe branches in shafts to be completed as per approved shop drawings by the Consultants.

Water Supply Pipe Testing
Hydraulic Testing
When the system has been fully installed all pipe work and fittings should be visually inspected and hydraulically tested. Joints should be left exposed until hydraulic testing has been successfully completed.
Thrust Forces
During installation the pipeline will be suitably anchored to resist thrust at changes of direction and fixed points such as branches and hydrant connections.
Charging the Main
The test section should be isolated, where necessary from the rest of the system. A blank end connection, drilled and tapped for test equipment, will be required and should be installed on a suitable flange face.
Testing should not be carried out against closed valves. The system should be filled from its lowest point with all air valves and control valves in the open position. Care should be taken to avoid pressure surges and to ensure that all air is expelled from the pipeline. Air valves should be closed as filling proceeds when the air valves are seen to be discharging water free from aeration.
Pressurizing
When charging is complete the pressure test equipment should be connected to the system via the blank flange or stopper. The equipment should consist of a single or double cylinder hand pump, a pressure gauge suitably graduated and preferably calibrated before use and press hoses to connect to a water supply and the blank flange or stopper.
The system should be pressurized slowly using the hand pump until the pressure gauge indicates the required value. The test pressure will be determined by the Engineer responsible but should not exceed 1½ times the nominal working pressure.
The duration of the test should not less than one hour during which time the system should be isolated from the test pump.
Plant Room
Builders work drawing to be prepared for the base of equipments with coordination with main contractor and approval of Engineer.
Place each equipment on its bases wherever required as per approved drawing.
Connect service pipes to relevant equipments such as:
Calorifiers
Water filters and softeners
Pumps
Fuel oil tank
The supporting system for service lines to be painted with protective paint system to withstand corrosion.
